Marine Mammals

Marine Mammals that can be found in Jamaican Waters

Jamaica’s marine environment supports a diversity of marine mammals that includes dolphins, whales, and the endangered West Indian manatee. These species contribute significantly to the country’s natural heritage and offer both direct and indirect economic benefits. Marine mammals attract eco-tourists, particularly for dolphin and whale watching experiences, which can enhance community-based tourism and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Their presence also enhances the country’s appeal as a destination for marine research and conservation initiatives. As global interest in sustainable tourism and biodiversity protection grows, Jamaica has the opportunity to further develop marine mammal-related activities that are both economically rewarding and environmentally responsible. The following is a list of marine mammals found in Jamaican waters.
