Meet the Clearing-House Mechanism Team

The Jamaica Clearing-House Mechanism (CHM) is the 5th department of the Natural History Museum of Jamaica of the Institute of Jamaica. Depending on the biodiversity information request, the CHM along with other department(s) of the Natural History Museum utilize in-house expertise, database and library resources or network with collaborating agencies to meet the requests.
Suzanne Davis, Senior Research Officer – Clearing-House Mechanism Suzanne Davis returned as the National Focal Point for Jamaica’s Clearing-House Mechanism (JA CHM) and Biosafety Clearing House in 2009 after pursuing Ph.D. Studies in Canada. Her Ph.D. research focus at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario was on the management of protected areas systems in tropical islands.She previously obtained a M. Tracy Commock, Director of Natural History Museum of Jamaica
As Director of the NHMJ, Mrs. Tracy Commock is responsible for ensuring the efficient management of the national collections of plants and animals and researching, documenting and disseminating information on biodiversity. She has also been employed as a botanist IOJ and plans to pursue further studies on the genus Phyllanthus in the Euphorbiaceae.
Dionne Newell, Senior Research Officer – Entomology
Mrs. Dionne Newell joined the Institute of Jamaica in 1999 as the Senior Research Officer (Entomology) in the Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) with a mandate to preserve and maintain the national zoological collections. Her duties include conducting research, collecting specimens and curating the collections.
Keron Campbell is the Botanist at the Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ), The Institute of Jamaica. He has completed a Bachelor’s degree with honours in the field of Botany (Major) and Zoology (Minor) and a Master of Science degree in the field of Natural Resource Management (with a focus on Tropical Ecosystems Assessment and Management) both at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Elizabeth is a specialist lecturer for the Tourism Product Development Company specializing in Flora and Fauna. Currently, she is the technical advisor for a joint project between the Natural History Society of Jamaica and the Institute of Jamaica, which explores and documents the unique links between folklore and Jamaican Natural History.
Dorsia Brooks , Education Outreach Officer
Dorsia Brooks started working at the NHM in January 2009. She has experience in teaching at various levels of the education system and her qualifications include a Diploma in Education, a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Zoology, and a Master of Science Degree in Natural Resource Management. Read more…
Mrs. Monique Forgie-Scott – Science Library
Mrs. Monique Forgie-Scott is the Librarian of the Science Library in the Natural History Museum of Jamaica at the Institute of Jamaica. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Art (MA) in Library and Information Studies at the University of the West Indies (Mona). She has completed a Bachelor’s degree with first class honours at the UWI (Mona), majoring in Library and Information Studies and a minor in Public Sector Management. Read more…
